2010 ISTANBUL EUROPEAN CULTURAL CAPITAL CITY PROJECT: AN “ICT PUZZLE COLLABORATION: FROM PAST TO THE FUTURE ISTANBUL (BİGG-İSTANBUL)”
This Project was determined as one of the educational projects of 2010 by the Organizing Committee and it took place among the other 75 projects within the Project Book which was presented to the European Union. This book was very influential about the approval of Istanbul as the 2010 Cultural Capital City of Europe and İstanbul was approved as the winner. The other cities were; Pecs (Hungary), Essen (Germany) and Selanik (Greece). The project has already started in 2006 to be ready for 2010 but unfortunately due to some confusion in the management of the 2010 Leading Committee it stopped its journey after the July of 2009.
The organizing institution KALBEMER, and other partners/collaborators are the Association for Continuous Improvement, Turkish Center for Schools of Quality, VKV Private Koç Primary School, Saint Pulcherie Foundation Primary School, Moda Primary School, 30 Ağustos Primary School, Levent Girls’ Technical School and Education and research Club of Bogazici University,Oki Printings Solutions and AM-BA worked hard for three years and produced 9 historical projects They worked on definite historical and architectural sites and products of Istanbul and tried to improve the conditions of them with a historical – current – futuristic view of thinking. Not only schools but also parents and local business people also had taken place in the project. It was a very fruitful educational Project based upon cultural values and technology use. We are so sorry for the elimination of the Project at the final step. That is not fair. First; supporting enthusiastically and offering a high budget on it by adding the sister cities and then after 3 years’ time without giving even one kuruş support; announcing its exclusion from the 2010 projects list. What a shame on behalf of the responsible body! Please visit: www.bigg-ist.com
