CITY MONTESSORI SCHOOL – THE SCHOOL WITH A DIFFERENCE Located in Lucknow, the capital of India’s most populous province Uttar Pradesh, City Montessori School, popularly known as CMS, happens to be one of the most unique schools in India. Making pioneering efforts in many fields of education ever since its inception over four decades ago, CMS has been daring, different and a class apart from its contemporaries from day one. It is not without reason that the school is the only one in the world to be awarded the “UNESCO Prize for Peace Education 2002.” CMS also occupies a place of pride in none other than the Guinness Book of World Records as the single largest city-school having a record number of over 28,000 students as of today ranging from the kindergarten to university level. Besides, not many schools have the privilege of hosting as many as 17 international events annually as CMS does – all milestones in the unparalleled success saga of CMS.

CMS: A SYNONYM FOR PEACE & CONFLICT PREVENTION The CMS campaign for proactive action in the field of world peace and conflict prevention has created a phenomenon of sorts and, in many ways, CMS has today become a synonym for unity, peace and tolerance. Whether it were the anti-Sikh riots that erupted all over India in 1984 in the wake of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination by her Sikh security guards or the communal frenzy witnessed in 1992 following the infamous demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya by Hindu fundamentalists, the spotlight has always been on CMS’ role as a peace promoter. Given its track record, the common man reposes faith and confidence in the organization’s intentions during tense times and even government agencies seek CMS co-operation in their peace restoration campaigns.
